Product Description
Yugoslavian Capture K98 Mauser
The Yugoslavian Capture K98 Mauser, often referred to as the Zastava M98/48, is a refurbished German Karabiner 98k bolt-action rifle that was repurposed by Yugoslavia following World War II. In the aftermath of the war, Yugoslavia faced significant challenges in rearming its military forces. To address this, the Yugoslav government turned to a temporary solution by refurbishing German K98 rifles that were left behind or captured during the war. These rifles were thoroughly overhauled in the late 1940s and reissued to the Yugoslav People's Army.
Key Features:
-
Refurbishment Process: The captured German K98 rifles underwent a meticulous refurbishment process. All German markings were removed, and the Yugoslavian crest was stamped on top of the receiver. Additionally, "PREDUZECE 44" was stamped on the left side of the receiver, indicating the factory responsible for the refurbishment.
-
Barrel Replacement: If the original barrel was deemed unserviceable, a new barrel was manufactured and installed to ensure the rifle's operational effectiveness.
-
Design and Specifications: The Zastava M98/48 retained the original Mauser design, chambered in 7.92×57mm Mauser. It features a bolt-action mechanism, a 5-round internal magazine, and iron sights. The overall length is approximately 1,110 mm, with a barrel length of 610 mm.
-
Usage: These rifles were used by the Yugoslav People's Army and were later distributed to various countries, including Croatia and Bosnia, during the Yugoslav Wars.
The Zastava M98/48 represents a significant chapter in the post-war history of Yugoslavia's military efforts. By refurbishing and reissuing these captured rifles, Yugoslavia was able to rapidly rearm its forces during a period of economic hardship and geopolitical uncertainty.
